Taquiza With Me As Surprise Cook

My wife teaches English as a Second Language (ESL) at the local college. One of her fellow teachers hosted a potluck party at her house this past Thursday evening for the last class of the term. Most of the students are Mexican, so they showed up with carne for asada, nopales, salsa, guacamole, etc. I brought a homegrown chicken marinated in an achiote adobo with sour orange juice. Well, the hostess and her husband are vegetarians, so I ended up cooking at the grill for most of the party, despite my asking my wife if I was going to have to work at this party. I often get recruited to cook at parties, which is fine, because it gives me a purpose other than drinking lots of beer. One of the students brought a big bag of homemade corn tortillas, though he wouldn’t divulge where he got them, not even to his wife, who looked at him suspiciously. Though I was busy cooking while the others ate, I did manage to make myself a few tacos de carne asada with fresh tortillas, a swab of guac and a swipe of salsa roja, topped with hot off the grill asada and a few slices of nopales.
